Surface water should be managed for maximum benefit, now and in the future. By working together we can integrate surface water management into the design of our towns and cities, protecting our environment and creating high quality places for future generations.

CIRIA C753 November 2015

Sustainable drainage system (SuDS) are designed to maximise the opportunities and benefits we obtain from surface water management. They deliver improvements to managing water quantity, quality, amenity and biodiversity.

The SuDS manual (C697), published in 2007, is highly regarded and considered one of CIRIA’s most influential areas of work. The SuDS manual has been updated to incorporate the latest technical advice and adaptable processes to assist in the planning, design, construction, management and maintenance of good SuDS.

The new manual was released on 11 November 2015 and can be downloaded below.

The updated SuDS Manual incorporates the very latest research, industry practice and guidance. In delivering SuDS there is a requirement to meet the framework set out by the Government’s ‘non statutory technical standards’ and the revised SuDS Manual complements these but goes further to support the cost-effective delivery of multiple benefits.
