In the last month live groundwater level information in England and Wales has been made available to the public through an easy to use platform produced by Shoothill – click here.

Shoothill specialise in transforming both statistical and geographical data into innovative applications for clients around the world including MSN, Sony Pictures and Formula One. Shoothill are creators of the award winning FloodAlerts, the UK’s first interactive flood warning map, which is featured on BBC News Online, SKY News and the Environment Agency website.

The gaugemap website provides live groundwater and river gauging data throughout England and Wales. You are able to search for nearby gauging stations and groundwater monitoring bores by entering a postcode or address and then clicking on the icons.

The 15 minute data is presented in a graphical format which is linked directly to the gauging station.

The gauging levels are very useful as a preliminary screening tool and the site provides up to date information for home owners, planners and developers. This information can be used to gain an overview of catchment dynamics and groundwater flooding.
